  Give cyclists at least 1.5 metres of space when overtaking. If in doubt, hold back.

  Watch for pedestrians at zebra crossings — they have the right of way once they step onto the crossing.

  Be extra cautious around elderly pedestrians and children — they may move slowly or unpredictably.

  When passing horse riders, slow down to under 15 mph and give them plenty of room.

  Look out for motorcyclists at junctions — they are much smaller and easier to miss than cars.

  Disabled people, including wheelchair users, may need extra time to cross the road.

  Near schools, expect children to cross suddenly. Obey school crossing patrol signs.
